Xylography, the engraving of wood, becomes widespread in China.

Anglo-Saxon (Old English) Version of the Psalms, believed to have been written by Bishop (Saint) Aldhelm.


Aldhelm was an expert and scholar in Latin and Anglo-Saxon literature, so it is disputed as to whether he developed this small translation from the Latin Vulgate or from the original texts.


710-735 AD                   


The Gospel of John is translated into Old English by Saint Bede, but quickly becomes a “lost translation.” 


Saint Bede had known very little Hebrew or Greek, but was very clear with his Latin.  As such, this brief work is also debated as a building block from the Latin Vulgate rather than the original Greek.


717 AD
